Manu is naturally gifted with a melodious and resonant voice ideally suited for capturing the vibrant emotions, hues and colors of Ragas. As a young singer raised and trained in west he has been inspirational to many youngsters of Indian origin living in USA & Canada Manu began his performance with raga Madhuvanti, and did an extensive vistaar of the raga in vilambit ektaal, followed by a paramparik drut bandish in teentaal with beautifully rendered gamak and swar taans, and finished with a cheez in ektaal. Next he presented raga Puriya Dhanashri with a melodious "aa jaraa dina dooba" in teental madhya laya and followed by "dekhi tori aan baan" drut ektaal, and a tarana in ada chautaal. He continued his performance with raga Jog ("saajan more ghar aa") in teentaal. After a short break, he resumed his concert with a khayal in Rageshree , after explaining the use of komal ga in this raga, with vilambit and drut khayal, and completed with a tarana composed by by his guru Pandit Bodas. Raga Gorakh Kalyan "Sajan bina baanwari bhari" was introduced in madhya laya teentaal and tarana in ektaal. In a request from the audience he performed a bhajan in raga Jog (baso more nainana mein nandanlal). He concluded his performance with a bhajan he composed himself in raga Bhairavi (beet gaye din bhajan dinaye, balapan khel gawaye). Manu was accompanied on tabla by Hemkalyan Bapat, who displayed complete mastery and played sevaral complex patterns. Vaneeta Kubal played harmonium and kept excellent saath with the chalan of the taan and cheez that were performed. |
